En 2003, peu de temps après la chute de Saddam Hussein, Muhsin al-Khafaji est un ancien policier qui est déterminée à assurer la sécurité de sa fille après avoir perdu tout le reste (son travail, sa maison et sa femme). Mais une erreur d’identité voit Khafaji se faire arrêter et torturer par les Américains. Il rencontre alors Frank Temple, un ancien policier britannique qui le recrute pour qu’il devienne policier dans la Zone Verte
